Overhead frost protection

A suitably designed overhead sprinkler system can be used for frost protection. Heat released as applied water freezes helps protect plant tissue when the system operates under suitable conditions.

Automatic alerts and activation

With compatible weather sensors, controller and communications, the system can issue an automatic frost warning and activate sprinklers under configured conditions. Continuous water supply and system supervision remain necessary during operation.

Water and reliability

Frost protection requires a designed flow rate and a continuous water supply during operation. We assess pump, mainline and electrical capacity; use of an existing drip main is considered only after hydraulic design confirms suitability.

Cooling in hot weather

Where appropriately designed, overhead sprinklers may also be used for plant cooling. Cooling and frost protection have different operating requirements and are designed separately. Cooling is particularly relevant for blueberries. When air temperature rises above 28°C, heat stress needs attention: vegetative growth may slow in heat-sensitive cultivars. The response depends on cultivar, humidity and water availability; 28°C is not a universal growth-stop threshold. Cooling is scheduled according to local conditions and monitoring.

FROM PLAN TO OPERATION

One project.
Four clear steps.

01 /

Understand your farm

Review your crops, area, water supply and existing infrastructure.

02 /

Design & proposal

Define the system layout, equipment and agreed scope of work.

03 /

Install & commission

Install, test and show your team how to operate the system.

04 /

Ongoing support

Plan maintenance and upgrades within an agreed service scope.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Before we get started

How much does an irrigation system cost?

Cost depends on area, crop, water source, required pressure and automation level. We prepare a proposal after reviewing the initial project information.

Can you upgrade an existing system?

We assess the equipment, hydraulics, controller and connectivity first. Where appropriate, the upgrade can be planned in stages.

What information should I send?

Your site location and area, crops, water source and photographs of existing equipment will help us prepare for an initial discussion.
